It’s different and it’s good.
The first time I spoke to Ashley and Amanda was about a year and a half ago, when a little interesting email come through from Amanda. Before this, we had never met or spoken before. We never got to jump on Skype for a video chat. We had emails and we had Facebook.
It truly is amazing. The people you never would of been able to meet before the web became popular. All of these stories that weren’t able to have shared with us. It has enabled almost all of us, should we choose to.
I always have a fear of meeting someone for the first time. I won’t lie, I’m not an old fashioned business man who only cares about showing strengths. I can say it – I was worried. I came from hundreds of kilometres away and I was far away from home. I hope I am the person they are expecting.
When I went to meet Ashley and Amanda for the first time, I remembered, we have connected, online. We actually know each other quite well already. I have seen a sneak peak of her life for the past 12 months and she has seen mine. She knows about Yen and Ayvia. She knows about my fishing trips and she knows about my business, on a personal level.
It is at this point, I realise, I get to meet some amazing people online. Many of which, we become friends.
It is truly different compared to my upbringing. It’s awesome and I love it.
Amanda and Ashley welcomed me into their circle. You see, they only have one circle, and that is family. From the moment my plane touched the ground, their friends and family took me under their wing. Everything they had, they wanted me to have. They put food on my plate and kept my glass full. They invited me to their gatherings and festivities. They even invited me to stay after the wedding.
I sit here thinking about it. I honestly felt part of their family.
